Panama Canal

Today was horrible.
It was my turn to carry the dynamite. I refused to break a sweat, i refused to take big steps. I held my breath as long as i could. These days drive me crazy, I have no faith for anything anymore. I get no sleep, pay is horrible. This is worthless, but i have no choice. I have no freedom. I hope things get better.

The big yellow journalism.

Yellow journalism has been around for a while now. Making things make sound as horrible as possible is what jounalists would do and still do to grab the attention of the reader. For example, during the war yellow journalism was used agaisnt Cuba, making them look useless and pleading for our help. Cuba in fact didn't have this state of mind, they sure didn't have women in prisons and abused children. Now a day we see yellow journalism being used even during epidemics like the swine flu, where they blew things way out of proportions when in fact the epidemic wasn't half as bad.

SOA Watch!

I strongly disagree with the SOA because of their ridiculous attempts to turn Latin American into something they're not. They turn them against their own people, their own country, even their own family, and what for? For the benefit of the United States, to make us a stronger country than we already are. We turn Latin American countries and attempt to replicate what we have in the United States, which in fact will possibly be impossible to do.

Learning differently

Yes, it was completely different, i learn by just paying attention in class. But for whoever this helped, it was awesome, great job Meechin. I'm more than positive this helped us all one way or another, but definitely by remembering what we wrote about on the blogs it's easier to know exactly what we learned about. I mean, it's so much better than writing pen and paper. Nice idea coming up with this.

Favorite Blog?

I know i obviously procrastinated but here i did them all (:
My favorite blog was definitely was the Ellis Island ones, where we saw all the pictures of their voyage, and their adventure over to America, it show's their emotions, and their idea's of what they thought this would be like.

Should we change children's education?

Personally i don't think so, we were taught the same things being taught today. Those children will soon find out about the truth sooner or later, just like we did. The way children are taught now is an easier way of them understanding what actually went on. Even though it may be historically incorrect in some places in general it's technically correct, so why not? What we know today will be so much harder for children to understand, because it's so much more in depth.

here comes trouble.

After looking through the pictures from Ellis Island, these families must of have so much mixed emotions. They had no idea what they were getting themself into, they imagines a world full of opportunities, full of excitment. They probably believed all their trouble were finally gone. So much difficulties came ahead, they must've been so scared, all they wanted was a better life. These families, orphan children, men and women took a chance at life, to begin a new life in America. Little did they know what laid ahead of them.

Woman of the house.

Women were degraded, and worked till they couldn't take it any longer. Factories treated women in an ignorant way, they worked countless hours. Their eyes were tired, their bodies were exhuasted but this did this for their families, to have a "better future" i suppose. They had to bring food to their families, yet they worked so hard and so little was to gain from it. Their lives were miserable, and here we take life for granted. We work amazing, good paying jobs and complain. We get food on our table and it's a constant complaint towards it. These women, children, men went through hell and back to get the worst things in life.

Oregon Trail

People have different ways of learning. Playing this game made me come to the conclusion that learning can be way easier by a game, an activity, something interesting. Yes, there are people who learn better through books, but most kids these days learn through visual, hands on activities. This game was great, it shows you the difficulties families had to go through during their way to the west. It shows the importance of their travel towards the west and the complications often happened during that time period.

Before Recontruction, or after?

Slaves before Reconstruction were ill treated. Treated worse than animals, beaten to death. They worked for survival, basically that's it. They had to follow all commands and obey everything ever said to them. However, after Reconstruction slaves were free, they were free to live, free to leave their masters house, free to do whatever they'd like. All this may sound nice, but in the end they would have to end up going back under their masters comands. Even if it was paid, through land, crops, anything. They still had that instinct to survive. I believe slaves are better off after Reconstruction, they gained respect, and honor even if it was after years of maltreatment, of sufferment they've become the people they are today.

"Stupid Slave"

This is what Americans probably thought back when slavery was allowed. Slaves were the lowest of low, they were treated like trash. Then why in the world would they need education? Of course they werent given any kind of education. Most just knew how to talk, very few knew how to read even less write.
After slavery was against the laws, slaves met roadblocks. Such as finding a better job other than working for their "masters" once again. They had very little education making them look still worthless, poor, stupid. These people had no pity on them, even less now that they weren't slaves.

why grant amnesty?

I know what the southerners did to these slaves was unbelievable, disgusting, disturbing. Yet Lincoln forgave them for all of this. I believe this was ridiculous, for someone to treat human beings to this extend have no forgiveness. Not even in the eyes on God. They had control over most crops and farming land, and made these african americans work for these lands. If I was Lincoln, I"m sorry but I would not grant amnesty, not at all.

Does history truely matter?

Of course! we learn about our history everyday. It's more than important because we need to know what has happened. Without this information we won't have the resources we have today, we learn about their lifestyles and abilities to survive. As announced during class, history repeats itself. If we know what has happened, we will know what to expect in the day of tomorrow.

Every country has it's own story on how to recreate their history. The government agree on what makes them look best. Of course, they don't exactly want a bad reputation. Anywho, Voltaires insipiration of saying this is because it's more than true. Every country has it's fair share of lies integratted in their history, and even more added daily. We can't really rely on our text books nor internet.However the truth is out there somewhere, and most of us will have the time to see it.

Stereotypes are so overated.

Have you ever stopped and wondered why society is so sterotypical? It's ridiculous.
The way we judge others according to their appearance, personaities, race, gender.
We as humans want to compare the similarities, and contrast the differences between one another. We have lost our morals and respect for humans just like us, by judging one another toa ridiculous rate.
Like we have compared before, history repeats itself, we are raised and manipulated to be this way and sadly we never grow from this.

Do they actually govern more than needed?

I agree when Thoreau said, "that government is best which governs least". Simply because when a governer has too much on hand he is taken away from what really is important, the citizens he represents. As a governer he should take on control what really is important for us citizens, and leave the nonsense behind. Their responsibilities are laid out infront of them, and as a government they take that and mold it into what would represent us as citizens the best. Leaving you at that, a government is truely best when they govern less.
